Skin Treatment Recommendations with Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Scott KarempelisProvider, Skin Care cosmetic treatments, educational, provider of the month, providers, skin care
Welcome back to the newest installment in our Provider of the Month blog series for March. At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta, we are always educating our patients about skin care from head to toe. So this month, we wanted to try something a little different. Our Provider of the Month is one of our practice partners, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Scott Karempelis (known around here as Dr. K). In order to help our patients benefit from his extensive experience diagnosing and treating a huge variety of skin conditions, we thought it would be helpful for patients to hear some firsthand skin treatment recommendations from Dr. K himself.
For Rosacea, Dr. K Recommends:
One of Dr. K’s top specialities is clinical and cosmetic therapy using a wide variety of top-of-the-line cosmetic laser treatments. He was instrumental in the launch and continued growth of the Laser Institute of Georgia, the first laser center of its kind in the state of Georgia. With this in mind, he has had terrific success through the years using many laser technologies for the treatment of rosacea. The Vbeam® Prima pulsed dye laser is most often used in a non-bruising mode to treat the telangiectasia (discreet vessels) and background flushing that causes rosacea. The treatment helps build new collagen in the second layer of skin, diminishing the look of the pores and giving the skin a smoother, more matte-like finish.
The new Sylfirm X pulsed wave radio frequency microneedling device has also been shown to help diminish this vascularity in tough cases.
For Wrinkles, Dr. K Recommends:
When it comes to treating age signs like wrinkles and fine lines, Dr. K is especially fond of the Cartessa™ Tetra Cool CO2 Laser Treatment. This new CO2-based laser treatment uses short pulse laser energy to deliver precise, effective skin resurfacing to areas all over the body including the face, neck, arms, hands, and more. Dr. K is able to customize all Cartessa™ Tetra Cool treatments to the specific needs of each patient. This treatment requires only minimal downtime for recovery.
Additionally, Dr. K is an expert in performing wrinkle-fighting injectable treatments including Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport®, as well as many facial fillers. Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® are safe and highly trusted treatments that are especially helpful for treating wrinkles and lines in the upper portion of the face, including on the forehead and around the eyes. He also performs facial filler injections from top brands like Restylane® and Juvéderm® to help address lose volume and deep creases in the lower portion of the face.
Dr. K is also a fan of Revance® and their RHA® collection, featuring 4 new filler treatments with a wide range of uses from lips to cheeks. This filler line has had no reported cases of inflammation and provides very long-lasting results.
For Skin Discoloration, Dr. K Recommends:
For patients who experience skin discoloration due to any number of potential cosmetic issues, Dr. K often recommends Vbeam® Prima. a versatile FDA-approved laser treatment ideal for addressing port wine stains, rosacea, and other pigmentation issues. He can also help remove or improve brown spots with other technology in our laser center. Discrete age spots or freckles are often treated with Alexandrite laser technology.
Dr. K is also a big proponent of PicoSure® with FOCUS™ Lens Array. This laser treatment can also be incredibly helpful for patients who wish to reduce the appearance of age spots, freckles, scars, and other blemishes on both the face and the body like hyperpigmentation. The PicoWay® laser can help patients with post-inflammatory pigmentation issues or provide temporary relief from melasma.
