Stop Worrying About Your Warts
With how many patients communicate their concerns, the expression “Worry wart” is very fitting. Warts are a highly common skin condition that millions of Americans have. Despite being so prevalent, it’s still a source of embarrassment and discomfort for a large population. Dermatology Associates of Atlanta provides safe removal treatment for all types of warts.
Oftentimes, people aren’t sure about which type of wart they have, so they might not administer the right care. Our experienced dermatology providers can identify and treat any of the following:
- Common warts
This kind of wart emerges either by itself or in a small cluster. Many cases occur on the hands, but they can be found on most areas of the body. They are typically rough in texture with a domed shape.
- Plantar warts
A plantar wart tends to be located on the soles of the feet. They are known to be more uncomfortable than other warts. Plantar warts feel like hard patches of thick skin that often trigger sharp pain when pressure is placed on them. This can make physical activity very unpleasant.
- Flat warts
Typically occurring in clusters, flat warts are flat, small bumps that are most commonly seen in children and young adults. In most cases, they aren’t painful but, they are highly contagious from person to person.
- Filiform warts
Most filiform warts reside in folds of the skin on the body. They are painless to the host, but they may be more difficult to remove than other types. A filiform wart is the same color as the surrounding skin, but the growth appears to be thread-like and protruded.
- Periungual warts
Periungual warts reside around toenails and fingernails of individuals. They are identified as having a rough and irregular shape. Similar to flat warts, periungual warts are often spread through children and young adults.
- Genital warts
Genital warts are sexually transmitted infections that can be found in both men and women. The problem with the condition is that the warts can be invisible to the human eye, so people often don’t know that they have it. When they can be seen, the growths are typically very small and flesh colored.
Treatment Solutions for Warts
While many warts fade on their own after a few months or years, they can be notoriously stubborn to remove. Within each wart, there are small capillaries that provide a constant blood supply to the growth, making it more resistant to elimination. Dermatology Associates of Atlanta specializes in the removal of all types of warts. Depending on each case we will administer the following:
- Cryotherapy (freezing the wart off)
- Electrosurgery (electrical current to burn wart off)
- Laser Surgery
- Curettage (removal with precise surgical instrument)
In certain circumstances, we offer in-office injections of immune stimulating or chemotherapy medicines. Patients can also opt for at-home methods that utilize prescription medicines, treatment with salicylic acids or tape to suffocate the wart.
