The Latest News from Dermatology Associates of Atlanta
The landscape of the medical field is constantly changing. Between public funding and private companies, researchers all across the globe are working on ways to help people be healthier. Our board-certified dermatologists and physician assistants at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta (DAA) strive to offer our patients the most advanced treatments for achieving their goals, whether it’s treating a skin condition or making a cosmetic change. But it’s also important to us not to simply jump on every new development in skin care, but to actually ensure that products and procedures are safe and effective before passing them along to our valued patients. Below are some of the latest treatments we’re confident enough in to add to our roster.
As common as it is, nail fungus is difficult to treat because the fungus is typically actually under the nail, where topical medications can’t reach. But, designed exclusively for this purpose, the Lunula Laser® targets the stubborn fungus painlessly and without the side effects that oral medications often cause. Most patients will require a series of four sessions, but each treatment is quick and easy, and the procedure offers a high rate of success.
PicoSure® Laser Skin Rejuvenation
While most laser skin rejuvenation treatments work by removing the damaged top layer of skin, PicoSure® (a laser that is well-known for its effective tattoo removal) uses the new FOCUS™ Lens Array to break down unwanted pigments (like sun damage, freckles, and age spots) while also building skin-firming collagen and elastin. A series of treatments can achieve exceptional results with far less discomfort and none of the recovery time that other laser skin rejuvenation procedures require.
SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion®
You’ve probably heard of microdermabrasion, a treatment that “buffs away” the damaged surface skin and dead skin cells to reveal brighter, more youthful skin. SilkPeel® is the next step up, because the unique treatment performs three processes at once: microdermabrasion, removing debris with gentle suction, and delivering a specialized topical medication. The topical product varies based on whether your goal for SilkPeel® is to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, manage acne, etc., and applying during the microdermabrasion actually allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin for maximum efficiency.
WAW™ System for Hair Transplant Surgery
A successful hair transplant surgery comes from a combination of the surgeon’s skills and the technology they use. Our surgeons Dr. Edmond Griffin and Dr. Ashley Curtis are true experts in the procedure, with over 40 years of combined experience, and the new WAW™ technology for follicular unit extraction (FUE) provides enhanced results with minimized scarring, allowing patients to enjoy the full potential of the surgeons’ abilities.
The Eczema Center
As our latest specialty center, this new facility offers advanced patch testing: a needle-free way for people with eczema, rosacea, contact dermatitis, skin allergies, or just sensitive skin to find the specific chemicals or materials that irritate their skin. Our patch testing goes beyond the kits that are available at other doctors’ offices, providing more in-depth insight even for patients who have already undergone skin allergy testing. The information we gather then allows us to create customized topical medications and offer recommendations based on your skin’s specific triggers.
Pro-Nox™ for Patient Comfort
At DAA, we’re committed not only to giving our patients the best possible results (whether it’s a medical condition or a cosmetic one), but also to providing a positive experience from start to finish. This includes keeping patients as comfortable as possible during potentially painful treatments. In addition to numbing cream and other local anesthetic options, we’ve recently added Pro-Nox™ as well. This unique system combines oxygen and nitrous oxide to provide relaxation and comfort, while leaving patients clear-headed enough to drive themselves home.
SkinCeuticals® Skin Care Products
Skin care lines are a dime a dozen, but at DAA, we only carry those which actually produce effective, consistent results, and that includes SkinCeuticals®. This brand focuses on using the latest scientific research as the basis for their product development, and it shows in their results.
Lumity™ Nutritional Supplements
Reducing signs of aging is one of the most common goals our patients have, and while there is plenty we can do from the outside to make your skin look younger, aging also happens beneath the surface. Lumity™ fills in the gaps with supplements that target the nine core body processes that contribute to aging, allowing you to not only look younger but feel younger, too.
Staying on top of the cosmetic dermatology field is a delicate balance, because it’s easy for snake oil and placebos to get lumped in with legitimately effective treatments and products. That’s why it takes a thoroughly educated and experienced staff to find the gems that can truly make a difference for our patients at DAA.
