Why Cutting-Edge Technology Matters in Skin Treatments
These days, cosmetic skin treatments have become so popular, they’re as about as common as haircuts for many people. And all it takes is a few minutes of flipping through a magazine or driving through a shopping area to realize that the industry has responded, too. It seems like there’s a med spa on every corner, but do you really know what you’re getting when you walk in? There are many factors you should consider before selecting a treatment provider, and today we’re taking a closer look at just one of these factors: technology. Advances in cosmetic medicine have made a strong difference in the safety and effectiveness of most procedures, but getting treated with older technology could mean you’re missing out and getting less for your money or increasing your risk for side effects. Below are just a few examples.
Tattoo Removal
Lasers themselves opened exciting doors for people with unwanted tattoos, but recent advancements have continuously made this procedure easier and more effective. The latest developments are in picosecond lasers, specifically the PicoWay™ and PicoSure® tattoo removal lasers we use at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta (DAA). By using extremely short pulses of light, they can treat a wider variety of tattoos, remove ink more thoroughly, and provide results in fewer treatments (sometimes cutting the number of sessions in half) compared to earlier lasers.
Fat Reduction
It wasn’t long ago when the only want to remove targeted fat from specific areas was with liposuction, which, like any surgery, involves some recovery time, risk, and cost. While this is still the best option for some patients, many are instead able to now take advantage of non-surgical (and even non-invasive) fat reduction methods. To reduce excess fat in the chin and neck area, you may have the options of Kybella™ injections or a new CoolSculpting® fat reduction applicator designed for this area. If the problem area is elsewhere on the body, like the abdomen, thighs, flanks, or chest, your choices may include CoolSculping®’s original applicator to “freeze” the fat away, or UltraShape®, which uses ultrasound to target the fat cells instead.
Facial Rejuvenation
Just like with fat removal, the field of facial rejuvenation has seen improvements that give patients more and more non-surgical options, so those who aren’t yet comfortable with plastic surgery can still look their best. One of the latest advancements is Infini™ skin tightening, which combines the popular practice of micro needling with precise radiofrequency energy to help your body restore skin-firming collagen as well as tighten the skin. For those who prefer lasers, our DOT™ Therapy treatments are highly effective yet less invasive than earlier laser skin resurfacing methods, allowing for less healing time and quicker results. Or, if you prefer an entirely non-invasive approach, you may be a candidate for Ultherapy® skin tightening, which delivers controlled ultrasound energy deep within the skin to cause tissue contraction.
