The Many Faces of Micro Needling
If you’re someone who likes to learn about the latest skin care and beauty treatments, you’ve probably heard of micro needling. It may not be new, but it’s been all over the press in recent months. If you haven’t heard about it, don’t worry – you’re about to learn! Essentially, micro needling uses tiny, ultra-fine needles to activate your body’s natural healing process. Why? Because this process produces a protein called collagen, which contributes to the firmness, elasticity, smoothness, and radiance of youthful skin. As a result, micro needling restores an overall rejuvenated appearance while directly diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, and scars from acne, surgery, or other injuries. Micro needling is so effective that many of the latest skin revitalizing technologies are using it as part of their system. At Dermatology Associates of Atlanta (DAA), we’re dedicated to offering our patients the best, so we use three different treatments which involve micro needling.
One of the earliest and most common forms of micro needling is the dermal roller – a cylinder of micro needles which is rolled across the skin. While dermal rollers have their uses, Réjuvapen® micro needling is essentially the next step up. The applicator is shaped like a pen (hence the name) with ultrafine needles on the end, which can be adjusted in length and which move in a vertical direction (rather than being rolled across the skin) to minimize unnecessary damage. Réjuvapen® is particularly helpful for small, precise areas like the corners of the nose and around the mouth, which are difficult to treat with most dermal rollers.
In addition to good old-fashioned wrinkle reduction, we also use Réjuvapen® for some hair restoration patients. The micro needling stimulates unproductive hair follicles into action, and to give the treatment an extra boost, it’s often used with natural growth factors. In this procedure, a small amount of your blood is drawn before it’s processed to extract the growth factors within it, which are then applied topically during the Réjuvapen® session to stimulate collagen growth.
Infini™ Facial Rejuvenation
While Réjuvapen® uses straightforward micro needling, Infini™ takes the process a step further by adding radio frequency (RF) energy, which further increases collagen production. Like Réjuvapen®, Infini™ can reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and scars, but this procedure can also have a significant effect on the skin’s firmness for a more youthful, lifted look. It’s safe for all skin types, and the details can be varied based on each patient’s individual needs, so your Infini™ skin firming treatments can be the ideal depth and extensiveness for your skin.
Fractora™ Facial Rejuvenation
As one of the latest additions to our arsenal of wrinkle-fighting techniques, Fractora™ combines micro needling with RF energy in a similar way to Infini™ to produce highly successful facial rejuvenation. Because it isn’t a laser, Fractora™ can be used on all skin types without the pigmentation risks of a laser treatment. Based on your individual needs, the cosmetic concerns you want to address, and the areas you want to treat, your procedure can be customized by adjusting the treatment depth, number of sessions, pin placement, and energy levels. This means Fractora™ facial rejuvenation can achieve the significant results you’re looking for in areas like the cheeks, forehead, and chin or neck while also treating delicate areas like the skin around the eyes.
Micro needling can be a great way to achieve a younger look with a minimally invasive procedure, but remember, it’s only one of many options for enhancing your appearance. The first step toward better skin is to schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified providers who can evaluate your skin, discuss your aesthetic and medical goals, and recommend a treatment plan to meet all your needs.
