Fun Facts About Microneedling

There is no denying that technology has given us a long list of new cosmetic treatments over the past several years. For our board-certified dermatologists and dermatology physician assistants, this is great because it allows us to offer excellent options to patients with varying skin types and cosmetic goals. As a patient, though, you may feel overwhelmed and unsure which treatments are the best fit for you.

One of those excellent options is microneedling. Now is your chance to learn more about this exceptional treatment.

Microneedling makes a larger difference than you think.

During a microneedling treatment, one of our skilled providers will use advanced technology with tiny microneedles to stimulate collagen in your skin. The procedure is gaining popularity, but many people still do not realize how versatile it is.

By stimulating collagen, microneedling makes your skin firmer, thicker, and smoother, which makes it look more youthful. On top of this, the treatment can improve scars like acne scars and surgical scars so they are less noticeable.

Microneedling comes in many forms.

You might hear people talking about microneedling as if it were a specific treatment. In truth, though, there are different forms of the procedure depending on the technology and topical products we use.

At DAA, we have three distinct options for microneedling. The first is a straightforward, tried-and-true form of microneedling: Réjuvapen®. The other two options are two brands with similar strategies: Fractora™ and Infini™.

Fractora™ and Infini™ use microneedling, but instead of using plain needles, their needles send targeted warmth into the deeper layers of your skin in the form of radiofrequency (RF) energy. The RF energy with microneedling stimulates your collagen production even more for stronger results.

Even among those types of microneedling, our providers customize your treatment for your skin and your goals. We can add serums, natural growth factors, and other topical products to boost your results.

Microneedling is safe for nearly anyone.

Laser treatments can treat many of the same cosmetic concerns as microneedling. However, they are not the best choice for all skin types and they come with a risk of pigmentation changes if you have sun exposure too soon before or after your procedure.

Microneedling does not have those downsides. It’s low-risk for any skin type and the sun-related risks are lower, although it is still best to be cautious about sun protection after your treatment.

Microneedling is not the same thing as at-home dermal rollers.

Dermal rollers have become popular at-home skin care tools. While the concept sounds similar to microneedling, it is actually quite different.

The needles on a home dermal roller are far shorter than those we use in microneedling. As a result, dermal rollers do not reach the layers of your skin that would stimulate your collagen. They do, however, create pathways in the top layers of your skin that allow your serums and other products to be more effective.

Microneedling is an exceptional way to get younger, smoother skin for people of any age. To find out more about it or get started with a personal consultation, call Dermatology Associates of Atlanta. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more skin care tips and special offers.
