Treatments for Rosacea

Not only can rosacea be embarrassing for an individual, but it can also be quite irritating and uncomfortable.  Rosacea is a chronic skin condition often appearing on the face, neck, ears, chest and scalp. The affected skin appears red or inflamed with broken blood vessels and acne-like pimples that can cause burning or stinging sensation.

Although this condition does not have a cure, the providers of Dermatology Associates of Atlanta offer highly effective treatments for controlling the four types of rosacea.  Our board-certified dermatologists will work with you to find the best way to manage your specific needs and symptoms.  Whether it’s through laser treatments, prescribed medications including compound prescriptions, oral and topical antibiotics, or educating patients on trigger signs, rosacea doesn’t have to disrupt your life.

Oral antibiotics can reduce the appearance of redness and inflammation as well as the pimples caused from rosacea by killing the bacteria deep within the pores. Topical antibiotics also treat the physical symptoms by killing the bacteria that is on the surface of the affected skin.

Our specialty center, Laser Institute of Georgia provides laser treatments that do extremely well with managing symptoms and inflammation of rosacea. V-beam Perfecta™ laser and Foto Facial® IPL treatment uses laser technology to penetrate the skin’s surface and impair blood vessels within the skin, minimizing the appearance of rosacea symptoms.   For patients with more severe cases, laser treatments provide high-quality, long-term results; however, follow-up treatments will be necessary as new blood vessels form.

As with all skin conditions, our providers will discuss ways to manage and keep track of your rosacea outbreaks. This is especially helpful for patients with mild cases. Determining triggers, practicing stress-reducing techniques and keeping a journal of flare-ups are all ways to help avoid and handle rosacea in the future.
