Chemical Peels

About Chemical peels at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta

Request an appointment

Many of our most popular cosmetic skin treatments at Dermatology Associates of Atlanta (DAA) are those which address a number of aesthetic concerns at once. This is particularly true in the case of chemical peels. By working with your body’s natural healing process to remove surface skin cells which have become damaged by sun exposure, acne, aging, and other issues, a chemical peel offers an overall rejuvenating and refreshing effect for your complexion.

During your chemical peel appointment, one of our board-certified dermatologists, physician assistants, or other licensed and experienced professionals will begin by applying a customized chemical solution to your skin, based on your unique skin type as well as the specific concerns you want to address (such as fine lines and wrinkles, acne, age spots, scars, etc.). The solution will be given a specified amount of time to penetrate your skin to a precise depth before it is removed. Depending on the depth of peel you have chosen, you will experience a certain degree of visible peeling over the coming days as your skin’s healing process clears away damaged surface skin to reveal smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin beneath.

Types of Peels

The key to an effective chemical peel is using the ideal solution for your unique skin care needs. To customize each patient’s treatment, DAA offers the following peels:

The Perfect Derma™ Peel

With visible results after approximately one week, this advanced peel combines a number of active ingredients, such as TCA, Retinoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and more. The peel itself can reduce signs of aging, acne, melasma, and hyperpigmentation (dark spots), among other concerns, and it can also be paired with a specialized “booster” for enhanced results. The peel also includes an aftercare kit to help you achieve the best possible results

PCA Peel by PCA SKIN®

PCA peels are a highly versatile way to restore brighter, more even-toned skin while also reducing acne, dark spots, and overall radiance. As a peel that is safe for all skin types, regular PCA Peels can be an effective part of nearly any patient’s aesthetic routine.

Rejuvenize Peel ™ by Skin Medica®

A substantial peel, the Rejuvenize Peel ™ penetrates deeply into the layers of the skin to remedy the appearance of moderate to severe cases of acne, wrinkles, acne scarring, and melasma (hyperpigmentation) of all skin types. The treatment time may take 30 minutes or more depending on your unique needs.

Illuminize Peel by Skin Medica®

Our most gentle peel (and with just a twenty-minute treatment), the Illuminize Peel improves the tone and texture of all skin types making it a perfect preparation for that special event or just a good mood booster too.

Vitalize Peel® by Skin Medica®

Achieve dramatic improvement in epidermal texture, tone, and fine lines, resulting in a healthier, more youthful glow with approximately a 30-minute treatment and little or no “downtime.”

TCA Peel (10% to 25%)

Trichloracetic acid will produce mild to moderate peeling, acne clearing, and reduction of the visible signs of aging. Most patients can expect their appointment to last around 30 minutes, though this can vary from patient to patient.

NeoStrata® ProSystem Retinol Peel

Retinol has long been known as one of the most effective compounds for skin rejuvenation, and we’re proud to offer an advanced NeoStrata® peel that harnesses its power. On top of 3% retinol, this peel contains a variety of ingredients to firm, brighten, and smooth the skin while protecting it from the damage of free radicals. Uniquely, the peel is applied by our experienced providers in our office, but it remains on your skin for eight hours or more until you wash it off at home.

Baby Foot™ Home Peel

The Baby Foot™ chemical peel is designed to exfoliate away dead and damaged surface skin on the feet, improving the feel and appearance of dry, rough, cracked soles and leaving softer skin in their place. The unique, simple process can also be done from the comfort of your own home.

Hand Peel

The hands are among the fastest-aging areas of the body, but chemical peels can make a strong difference in the appearance of the skin. Peels for the hands use the same process as those for the face, but they’re specially catered to the hands to give them a more youthful, smooth look and reduce wrinkles, age spots, and skin thinness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who performs chemical peels at DAA?
As many of our patients already know, DAA houses nine unique specialty centers in order to offer both the convenience of a large, comprehensive practice with the expertise of specialized providers. Chemical peels are offered at both our Dermatology Center as well as Skin Medics™ Medical Spa and are performed by several of our board-certified dermatologists, physician assistants, and other licensed professionals.

How much recovery time does a chemical peel require?
Chemical peel recovery time varies based on the specific peel you choose. Some light peels may actually cause little or no visible peeling—you will still experience the exfoliating effects, but in a more subtle and gradual way. Substantial peels, on the other hand, cause more extensive peeling, so depending on how comfortable you are with your skin’s appearance during this time, you may prefer to take some time off of work.

What areas of the body can be treated with chemical peels?
Most people think of chemical peels as a facial treatment, but they can actually be a safe and effective way to improve the skin of your back, chest, hands, feet, and more.

How do I know what type of chemical peel is best for me?
Your first step is a chemical peel consultation with one of our licensed and experienced professionals. Your provider will discuss the skin care concerns you would like to address, evaluate your skin, and recommend the ideal peel formula and strength to meet your needs.
